As I write this post, Aaron Anderson, a friend, a brother in Christ, and a part of our Lakewood church family is on life support at the hospital in Milwaukee. Medical personnel have confirmed his total brain death, caused by a severe car accident last night.
I first met Aaron when he moved ...
This past Sunday, I preached on Philippians 2:1-11, a beautiful text relating the humble incarnation of Jesus Christ to the importance of striving for unity in the local church. During the sermon I shared the following illustration from Dave Harvey's Rescuing Ambition (which our men's group has ...
In our second post, we look to answer the question, "What should go on in our worship services?" If our worship really is foremost for the pleasure of God, then we must look to the Word of God to answer this question. I believe the Scriptures provide us with five simple components for a worship ...
November is Healthy Church Month here at Lakewood. In the first sermon, we looked a couple of important questions.
Question #1: For whom is our worship service?

As we continue our pursuit of a more permanent location for our church, my conviction that our church should not pursue an official fund-raising program only grows stronger. Many there be around us who believe in Christ, but it is with a very trembling faith, and their hold is unsteady; we need to have among us ...
One of the first sermons Pastor Dave ever preached was from the first "beatitude" from Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. Jesus says in Matthew 5:3, "Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs in the kingdom of heaven." The Holy Spirit cut Dave deeply with the following truth from this passage: "Jesus wants me to see myself as a spiritually impoverished beggar, with nothing of worth to offer Him, but with everything to gain from Him."
