Our Pastoral Staff
Dave Marriott - Lead Pastor
Dave and his wife Emiley, together with a small group of believers, established Lakewood Baptist Church in fall 2009. As lead pastor, Dave focuses on expository preaching, Bible teaching, and evangelism.
A third-generation preacher, Dave was born into a pastor’s family in Oak Ridge, Tennessee where his parents established a local church. He graduated from Bible college with a degree in humanities, went on to earn his master’s degree in Bible, and is currently finishing his Master of Divinity. Dave’s pastimes include reading, golf, watching football, medium-rare steak, road trips, and Alterra coffee. Among his favorite books are Knowledge of the Holy by A. W. Tozer and Discipline of Grace by Jerry Bridges. His favorite doctrine is the believer’s union with Christ because without it, we would have no hope for godly living.
Emiley grew up in Oconomowoc and has a passion for ministry in Lake Country. In fact, the desire to start Lakewood was originally birthed in her heart! She graduated from Bible college with a degree in elementary education and has worked as a teacher and private nanny. Today she serves as church secretary at Lakewood. Emiley enjoys restoring old furniture, designing vinyl, drinking coffee with Dave, taking road trips, playing soccer, and spending time outdoors. Her favorite book is Loving God with All Your Mind by Elizabeth George.
Dave and Emiley met at Bible college in 2005, were engaged on a boating adventure in Lake Geneva in 2007, and were married later the same year. They live in the town of Ottawa with their two labs, Jack and Charlie.
Brian Trainer - Executive Pastor
Brian and his wife Sherry were part of the original church-planting team that founded Lakewood. While serving as a deacon, Brian was called to minister as executive pastor in winter 2011. God has gifted him with administration, counseling, and teaching skills that he enjoys using at Lakewood and at Maranatha Baptist Bible College and Seminary. Brian has an undergraduate Bible degree and two master’s degrees, and is currently completing a Doctor of Ministry program.
Sherry has a willingness to serve in any way and has been uniquely blessed by God with a vibrant musical ministry in the church. Several times per year, she’s invited to sing in other congregations. Brian and Sherry also love cross-cultural ministry, serving in over 40 countries. Before coming to Lakewood, they were involved in local church ministry, which included a church-planting endeavor in Minnesota and work at a growing congregation in Virginia.
In their spare time, Brian and Sherry love biking, hiking, and ethnic food — especially Italian and Chinese. They met at a church service where he was the guest speaker and she was the guest vocalist. They dated for three weeks before Brian moved to India to minister for six months. When he returned, they were engaged for just three days before getting married! Brian and Sherry live in Oconomowoc.
Isaiah Lewis - Pastor of Youth & Discipleship
Isaiah and his wife Elizabeth have a passion for interpersonal ministry, especially with teenagers. After serving as volunteer youth leaders for one year, Lakewood called Isaiah to serve as associate pastor. After any service, if you want to find Isaiah and Elizabeth, look for the large circle of young people!
The youngest of five children, Isaiah was born and raised in Epsom, New Hampshire. He went to Bible college and graduate school, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biblical studies. While there, he met Elizabeth, who has a bachelor’s degree in women’s ministry. She grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and is known at Lakewood for her southern accent and kind, hospitable spirit.
In their marriage, the passage of Scripture that has meant the most to them is Psalm 73:25-26: “Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Isaiah and Elizabeth are serious University of Tennessee football fans and enjoy outdoor activities, especially kayaking and boating. As for the inside scoop on his favorite sweet tooth craving, Isaiah himself will tell you — Culver’s custard!
