Our History

In 2008, God lead Pastor Dave and Emiley, along with two others families and singles, to begin a home Bible study and prayer meeting, asking the Lord to raise up a church in Lake Country. After a difficult setback, it seemed like the Lord was not "in" this church-plant at that time. However, He did not take the desire away from Pastor Dave and Emiley, so they continued to pursue it, asking, "God if you are closing the door, then please close it a little harder, so that we get the message more clearly!"

Partnership

During this time, God lead Pastor Dave and Emiley to join with Calvary Baptist Church in Watertown. Pastor Bob Loggans and the leadership at Calvary recognized the giftedness and calling of Pastor Dave and agreed to become the mother church for Lakewood Baptist Church. It was soon decided that in April of 2009, the group would start public Bible study and prayer at the local Holiday Inn Express in Delafield. As they studied Philippians and as God knit their hearts together, it soon became apparent that the little Bible study would one day become a church.

New Beginnings

On September 13th, 2009, Lakewood Baptist Church held its first public Sunday service at Cushing Elementary School in Delafield. That first morning, Pastor Dave preached from Ephesians 2:1-10, laying a gospel foundation for the church. In subsequent weeks, our young church continued to grow closer, as we worshipped, served, and were challenged together.

Autonomy

On January 31st, 2010, Calvary Baptist Church in Watertown released us from their care and oversight, recognizing full autonomy for Lakewood Baptist Church. That day, 43 believers were able to sign the chartering documents. The church then motioned to call Pastor Dave as the pastor and to adopt the doctrinal statement and governing documents.

Recent Happenings

In recent days, the church has been growing much spiritually and numerically! It has been a joy to see several folks turn from their sins and trust Jesus Christ alone for salvation, to see others follow Christ in believer's baptism, and to see many families added to membership, i.e. partnership in the ministry. We have devoted each Monday to specific prayer that God would grow us deeper in our relationships with Him, closer in our relationship with each other, and wider through our sphere of gospel-influence.

We have begun saving funds for a permanent location. Just recently we were blessed with $25,000 in matching funds toward the purchase of land or a building. In the meantime, we continue to use the facilities at Cushing Elementary School in the heart of Delafield.
